Hardscaping & Design
Why Choose Us for Hardscaping & Design?
Hardscaping is the backbone of any well-designed outdoor space. Interlocking stone driveways, patios, walkways, and retaining walls give your property structure and function that lasts for decades when installed properly. We handle the full process from design through to installation, including excavation, grading, base preparation, and final finishing.
Getting the base right is where most hardscaping jobs succeed or fail. We excavate to the proper depth, install granular base material in lifts, compact each layer, and make sure drainage is accounted for before a single stone goes down. Cutting corners on base prep leads to shifting, sinking, and cracked pavers — problems that cost more to fix than doing it right the first time.
We work with all major paver brands and natural stone options. Whether you want a classic herringbone driveway, a modern large-format patio, or a natural stone garden path, we can design something that fits your home and your budget. Our work across Scarborough and North York speaks for itself — clean lines, solid construction, and finishes that still look good years later.
Ted handles the design side personally. He will walk your property, discuss what you want to use the space for, and put together a plan that makes sense for the layout and the budget. No pressure, no upselling — just honest recommendations.

Interlocking Patios & Driveways in Agincourt
We've installed dozens of interlocking projects across Agincourt — Sheppard East, Birchmount, Finch corridor, the Glen Andrew side streets. Here's what we've learned about doing it right in this part of Scarborough.
Base prep matters more here than anywhere else. Most of Agincourt sits on heavy glacial clay — the kind of soil that holds water through spring thaw and pushes pavers around when it freezes. We excavate 12–14" on driveways (vs the 8" you can get away with on sandier ground further west), put down a geotextile separator over the subgrade, then build up the granular A base in 2" lifts and compact each layer with a 2,000 lb plate compactor. Skip any of that and you'll see settlement within two winters.
Driveway sizes in Agincourt run bigger than you might think. The 1960s–70s bungalows along Sheppard East and Glen Andrew typically have 24–32 ft driveways with a flare at the curb. The newer infill builds north of Finch are often 18–22 ft single-wides. We measure and quote on-site so the price reflects your actual square footage, not a generic per-driveway flat rate.
Paver thickness for vehicle loads. For driveways we install 60mm pavers minimum — Permacon Roman, Techo-Bloc Industria, or Unilock Thornbury are the three we use most often in Agincourt. 50mm pavers crack under SUV weight after a couple of years. Patios can drop to 50mm safely. Flagstone and natural stone need a deeper bedding layer; we'll walk you through the trade-offs on-site.
Polymeric sand and freeze-thaw. Toronto's freeze-thaw cycle (around 60 events per winter) is what kills cheap interlocking jobs. We use polymeric sand on every project — it locks the joints against the cycles, keeps weeds out, and stops ants from undermining the bed. Re-top it every 2–3 years to keep the install sealed.

Hardscaping & Design — Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about our hardscaping & design services in Scarborough.
How long does a patio or driveway installation take?
A typical patio takes 3 to 5 days. A full driveway can take 5 to 10 days depending on size and complexity. Weather can affect the timeline, but we will keep you updated throughout the process. We aim to minimize disruption to your daily routine.
What is the price range for interlocking work?
Interlocking patios generally start around $18 to $25 per square foot installed, and driveways run $22 to $35 per square foot depending on the paver selected and site conditions. We provide free detailed quotes so you can compare options and make an informed decision.
Do I need a permit for hardscaping work?
Most patio and walkway projects do not require permits in Scarborough. However, retaining walls over a certain height and projects near property lines may need one. We check the requirements for your specific project and handle any permit applications if needed.
How do you handle drainage on patio projects?
Proper slope and drainage are built into every design. We grade the base to direct water away from your foundation and include drainage solutions like channel drains or French drains when the site calls for it. Standing water on a patio is a sign of poor installation.
What paver brands do you work with?
We work with leading Canadian paver manufacturers including Unilock, Permacon, Oaks, and Techo-Bloc. Each brand offers different styles, colours, textures, and price points. We will show you samples and help you select materials that complement your home's architecture and fit your budget.
Can you build a fire pit or outdoor kitchen area?
Yes. We design and build fire pit pads, outdoor kitchen counters, and BBQ stations using interlocking block and natural stone. These features are integrated into the overall patio design with proper base preparation, gas line access points (if applicable), and heat-resistant materials where needed.
How do I maintain my interlocking after installation?
Interlocking requires minimal maintenance. We recommend topping up polymeric sand in the joints every 2-3 years, applying sealer every 3-5 years for colour enhancement and stain protection, and clearing weeds that may occasionally sprout in neglected joints. We offer maintenance services for all these tasks.
What is the difference between concrete pavers and natural stone?
Concrete pavers are manufactured to precise dimensions and come in a wide range of colours and patterns. They are more affordable and easier to cut. Natural stone (flagstone, granite, limestone) offers a unique, organic look and premium feel but costs more and requires more skilled cutting. Both are excellent choices for Scarborough properties — we can help you decide which suits your project.
